WHATS IN MY PHOTOGRAPHY KIT?
By Pete | Jan 21
Hey Guys, After receiving a few questions about what’s in my photography kit, I thought I would start my blog with a nice easy introduction into what helps me take my images.
I’ll include a brief description of each item in my kit and why I would recommend it to you lovely lot.
CAMERA
Sony A7 III
The A7iii was my first real camera… I say real, it was my first full frame camera.
It took me a few months to decide whether to go for the Sony over the more traditional Canon/Nikon DSLR’s, but with its smaller size and weighing considerably less, I was sure I had made the right decision.
Despite being the A7R3’s little brother model, the Sony a7 III is a supremely capable full-frame camera. It doesn’t have as many megapixels but for the price you will not be disappointed,
I have used this camera for the past two years now and been impressed with the fast Hybrid AF with 693 phase-detection and 425 contrast-detection AF points, 24 MegaPixels and 4k HDR movie recording capability making it perfect for videography.
DJI Mavic Pro + Fly More Combo drone.
Being a little late to the party with the drone, I opted to purchase the DJI MAVIC PRO 2 I’m glad that i did, the quality is pretty amazing for something so small.
With a flight time varying between 22-28 mins, and the 4 batteries that come with the Fly More Combo, you should have plenty of time to get the shots you need.
LENSES
Sony GM 70 – 200 F4
This is a great lens for most situations, it covers a vast focal range enabling me to be a bit more selective on what I have to pack. I chose the f4 purely for weight reasons, as it is almost half the weight of the 2.8GM. Pair this with the 2x converter and you can get beautiful moon shots and mountain ranges.
Here is the Polarising filter that I use for this lens.
Weight: 840g
Sony G Macro 90 2.8
This lens is a game changer. If you have ever used a normal lens for product photography and wondered where you are going wrong, then this lens is the answer! Crisp and clear detail for watch faces or car interiors etc!

Weight: 602g
Sony Zeiss Batis 85 1.8
As I bought the GM 24mm I couldn’t decide whether to go for GM or the Batis 85mm. Well, it was a lot cheaper and weighs almost half of the GM. Reason enough for me, as it makes a big difference when you are travelling for a month or longer.

Weight: 452g
Sony FE 24mm F1.4 GM
This lens was my first prime lens, I stepped up from the kit lens and can not recommend this highly enough. If you are looking for a wide angle lens for landscape and astro photography, this is perfect. The GM offers a beautifully sharp image with creamy bokeh. Great in low light!

Accessories in my photography kit
Bags
This will probably be my next purchase, so I am looking for some recommendations. I currently use a mixture of backpacks from a standard bag with inserts and the Vanguard 41 Backpack camera bag.
Lacie 2tb
Lacie drives are the only brand that I have used, as every set/studio I have been working on everyone always uses these. However one of mine recently failed so I may look to changing brands soon.
The Peak Design Capture Pro Clip
If you are into hiking, then this accessory is a must. If you need to use your hands whilst climbing, it’s really hard if you are carrying your camera. I managed without for a couple of years but so glad i invested.
Other photography kit essentials

Lee Filters LEE100 Long Exposure Kit – I only recently purchased this kit but highly recommend it as the perfect addition if you are taking long exposures for seascapes etc…
