Hotel Review | Unplugged

Switching off is not one of my strongest points but its something im trying to work on.. In the summer of 2024 i worked with the team at Unplugged and really embraced the idea of unplugging.
Most of us take time off from work and life to switch off, but how many people can hold their hands up and truly say that they do TRULY SWITCH OFF!? Unplugged are offering you the perfect space to feel completely relaxed, absorb fully in your surroundings, reconnect with yourself, your loved ones and lock your devices away.
Unplugged is an amazing idea – the perfect setting for a digital detox
Unplugged isn’t a new concept at all. Going back to basics, and being connected with your environment is how we lived for thousands of years.
I am old enough to remember the times before mobile phones and the internet. Where my every second was not filled with the constant need to stimulate my attention and give me that instant hit of dopamine. Whether it’s boredom, habit or for some, the feeling of loneliness. The majority of us can say that we reach for our phones and devices far too many times throughout the day.
The digital era has truly changed our lives, and for some, this over stimulation has started to feel like burn out.
When I got the opportunity to stay at one of Unplugged’s cabins, it was exactly the antidote I was looking for. Force myself to quieten my busy mind and relax in the beautiful countryside.
Finding the cabin felt like and adventure in itself, taking me straight back to childhood. After abandoning my car at the end of the track. I followed the arrows through the woodland and made my way to a charming cabin, well hidden within the trees.
On entering the cabin, I immediately noticed the lack of T.V, cables and plug sockets that we are all so used to seeing. Instead there were books, board games and a radio.
The cabin interior was in keeping with its location, with the walls and kitchen all made of unfinished wood, and a log burning fire, it made me feel cosy and cocooned.
I tucked my phone away in the phone lockbox, and said goodbye to it (for now).
UNPLUGGED
Beyond the cabin and woods, a rolling landscape of green fields and trees stretched out in front of me. I made myself a coffee and sat outside the cabin, only I wasn’t alone. The sheep that roamed the grounds came to welcome me. I smiled as mild curiosity, turned to a complete lack of interest, as they carried on foraging the ground.
Over the coming days I planned to take my camera with me on country walks, visit one of the many local pubs for dinner and above all else, slow down and make the most of being tucked away from the outside world.
As the days passed by, I found myself wanting to spend more and more time being outside, ambling about and enjoying not having anywhere to be. I wasn’t tied to a schedule or expected to answer endless messages or emails. I felt free.
I was sad to leave the cabin, it had fast became my home. I realised how very little we need as humans to feel content with life. Perhaps a unplugged life is the life I never knew I needed.
Ive always worked with hotels when i travel abroad but not so much here in the uk. So in 2025 i really want to network with owners of some beautiful spaces/ villas and hotels and create some amazing imagery for your businesses.
